Bhubaneswar: The unrelenting heat wave continued to cripple Odisha as the mercury went up to 40 degree Celsius and above at 17 places on Tuesday.

According to a release issued by Met department, Sundaragrh emerged as the hottest city in the state today after mercury soared up to 46 degree Celsius followed by Hirakud at 44.6 degree Celsius.

Jharsuguda, Titlagarh and Bhawanipatna recorded temperature of 44.5 degree Celsius, the report added.

The other cities that recorded temperature above 40 degree Celsius were: Balasore (41.6), Chandbali (41.8), Angul (44.1), Baripada (41.6), Keonjhar (42.7), Sambalpur (44.2), Talcher (44.1), Balangir (44), Phulbani (41.8), Malkangiri (42.6), Sonepur (44.3) and Dhenkanal (42.9).

While, the mercury stayed at 39.9 degrees Celsius in the capital city, Cuttack registered a temperature of 39.2 degree Celsius, the report stated.
