No Odisha tableau in R-Day parade in New Delhi this year

Bhubaneswar: The people of Odisha are in for a major disappointment as the Ministry of Defence has rejected the design of the State’s tableau for the Republic Day parade in New Delhi this year.

The State had sent four designs including one depicting the Paika Rebellion on its 200th anniversary year and the famous Thakurani Yatra of Berhampur. The design of Thakurani Yatra was appreciated by the jury members in the initial phase following which a one-minute demo of the tableau was also prepared. However, it got rejected in the last moment, informed sources.

"The experts have selected our tableau in the first phase. But, finally it was rejected in the ministry level which I never expected. The rejection will hurt every Odia," Chief designer of the tableau Gajendra Sahoo said.

"Around 13-14 tableaus are generally selected every year to take part in the Republic Day event. I think our tableau has been rejected by the Ministry of Defence following two consecutive years of selection," Pradyumna Kumar Das, chief designer, Information and Public Relation department said.
