Bhubaneswar: The State Election Commission (SEC) has ruled out chances of fresh elections in Baghamari block after the death of Mini Dalabehera, who had filed her nomination for the post of Sarpanch.

The SEC noted that if a candidate in fray dies before the final nomination list is published by the commission there is no provision of fresh election.

“If a candidate dies after the list of valid nominations is published, which in this case is Jan 19, then the election is countermanded and fresh nominations and elections will be held on subsequent dates. In case of Baghamari, the incident occurred before January 19, hence there is no scope of elections being countermanded,” informed Secretary of the SEC, Rabindra Nath Sahoo.
