Jajpur: Hundreds of farmers under the aegis of 'Naba Nirman Krushak Sanghathan', an outfit fighting for the cause of farmers, today assembled here at the office of Collector demanding their long- standing demand- price, pension and prestige, for which they have been struggling for last six years.

Named the rally as 'Jay Kishan'', they demanded Rs 5,000 per month as security pension to each for 36 lakh farmers in the State and Rs 21.6 thousand crore budgetary allocation for the purpose.

The farmers alleged that they are yet to get proper price for their paddy and other facilities for agriculture. ''We are not getting proper price of our paddy. Irrigation to every land is still a distant dream. There is no cold storages to store the grains", a farmer said.

They submitted a memorandum to the district administration to which ADM assured of action within a month.

"Whatever is coming within the purview of district administration, we will do that in next 30 months", ADM Sarat Biswal said.

On the other hand, the farmers' body warned the administration of a mega rally in Bhubaneswar in near future if the administration fails to meet the demands.
