Bhubaneswar: Senior Congress leader Niranjan Patnaik, on Saturday, lambasted the Naveen Patnaik-led BJD government for its anti-farmer policies in Odisha.

Accusing the government of neglecting farmers, Patnaik said the government passed the salary hike proposal for ministers and MLAs with ease but the same is not followed while proposals are tabled for farmers.

The government must heed to the woes of lakhs of farmers in the State and announce a special package for them. The ruling party should be impartial in sensitive issues like farmers' suicide due to crop loss and loan burden, said Patnaik.

“Farmers are yet to get hike in minimum support price for their crops. The government must revise the price and hike it soon on moral grounds,” added Patnaik.

The former president of Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee also trained guns on the BJD government for its alleged involvement in mining scam in the State and also lashed out at the Narendra Modi-led BJP government for frequent and unabated hike in petrol and diesel prices.

On the other hand, State BJP vice president Samir Mohanty condemned the protest call of Congress on fuel price hike against Dharmendra Pradhan.

"A political conspiracy is being hatched against the Odia Union Minister to belittle his image," alleged Mohanty.
