Bhubaneswar/Mumbai: National Award-winning Odia filmmaker Nila Madhab Panda's upcoming movie Halkaa has won top prize “Grand Prix de Montreal” at 21st Festival International du Film Pour Enfants de Montréal (FIFEM). Halkaa had its world premiere at this prestigious film festival.

Halkaa is Panda's second movie with children which won the top award at FIFEM after his much acclaimed I am Kalam that won the audience award ‘Prix Du Public’ in 2010.

Speaking to odishatv.in, Panda said, "This is a huge boost for the film. Winning this award at the world premiere screening will certainly motivate the entire team. The film has already been invited to six international film festivals."

Out of seven international children’s films from different countries, Halkaa topped the chart in the official competition of the festival in Montreal.

The director also said that Halkaa can be called a sequel to his much-acclaimed kids’ film I am Kalam and is based on a kid’s journey to becoming a hero.

When asked about his expectations from the movie, Panda said, "I am sure the audience will love this one as well like my previous movies. This is a family entertainer with amazing music from Shankar Ehsaan Loy.”

Halkaa is a story of an eight-year-old boy Pichku who lives in the oldest slums of Delhi and aspires for a better life. It is a story of a child who achieves his goal against all odds and becomes a hero in the making for his parents, slum and society.

The light-hearted movie stars child actor Tathastu as Pichku and Ranvir Shorey and Paoli Dam as his parents.

The movie is the maiden production of Shiva Nadar Foundation in association with Odia filmmakers Akshay Kumar Parija and Nila Madhab Panda. Supratik Roy is the associate producer of the film which is scheduled to hit theatres across India around May-June 2018.
