Cuttack: All efforts of the forest department including night patrolling, bursting of crackers and laying of traps failed to yield any desired result as three more sheep were killed and five injured by the mysterious creature at Nati village in Niali of the district last night. Two more sheep went missing from the village since last night.

The fresh incident took place a day after a special team from Similipal National Park (SNP) arrived in the region to catch the predators. The 18-member team headed by Baripada DFO Sanjay Swain is well equipped with all facilities, including tranquiliser guns and drone cameras.

The team will use these cameras to trace and track the killer animals, which are believed to be either hyenas or wolves coming from nearby Bhanragarh forest, official sources said.

The local residents have expressed serious anguish over failure in tracing out the killer and demanded compensation for death of their livestock. The district administration, along with Forest Department personnel have launched massive awareness drive in the region urging people not to believe the rumours spread over the deaths of sheep.
