Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police today detained four miscreants for allegedly attacking newsmen on duty in front of the Jharpada Circle Jail here when the SUM Hospital owner Manoj Nayak was taken on a two-day remand.

The four miscreants were detained at the Laxmisagar police station after the newsmen lodged a police complaint.

While being taken to the police custody, three miscreants of the four told media they are staff of one particular organisation.

As soon as the police team brought Nayak out of the Jharpada jail, where he was lodged since yesterday night following his rejection of bail plea, some miscreants, inclduing the four detainess, hiding in the crowd in front of the jail shoved the newsmen and tried to cut the wires of the DSNG van of TV channels when the media personnel attempted to get a comment from the arrested SUM Hospital owner.

Police perseonnel were silent spectator when the high drama was unfolding.

One of the photojournalists, who was capturing visuals of Nayak, said, “When the SUM Hospital owner was being taken to the remand, some miscreants obstructed to take photo of the accused.”

Expressing similar views, another photo journalist said, “Eight to ten persons attacked us while taking photos and broke the microphone boom.”

A reporter working with a local newspaper covering the incident, said, “The media wants the truth to come out before the public. Let them (public) decide who is doing the wrong.”

Another feamle reporter working with a local TV news channel, said, “When the TV channels were busy in taking live visuals some miscreants tried to cut the DSNG van wires. They even broke the boom.”

Notably, some supporters of Nayak yesterday shouted slogans against particualr news TV channels and protested in front of Khandagiri police station where the SUM Hospital owner was kept following his arrest in connection with the fire mishap.
