Baripada: A newborn girl was rescued by a woman from the Krushnachandrapur forest. According to sources, the woman was collecting firewood from the forest yesterday while she discovered by baby.

Today the woman handed over the baby to the district child protection officer.

“We spotted the baby after hearing her cries. Then we rescued her,” Rina Marandi who rescued the newborn.

“In the preliminary stage we will conduct a medical treatment. Then the baby will be produced before the child welfare committee. We will also try to identify her legal guardian. We will take all possible steps as per the law,” said Mayurbhanj district child protection officer, Mamtamayee Biswal.

The newborn has been admitted to the Baripada hospital.
