Newborn girl found buried alive gets ‘Dharitri’ name

Jajpur: The newborn girl, who was found buried alive in compost dump at Shyamsundarpur in Jajpur district and rescued by the locals on March 25, has got a name ‘Dharitri’ or the Earth in Sanskrit.

The female infant, who is undergoing treatment at the Jajpur district headquarters hospital under the supervision of the District Child Protection officer, was given the ‘Dharitri’ name by Jajpur Collector Ranjan Kumar Das and Minister Pranab Prakash Das.

Besides, the infant has been nicknamed as ‘Sita’ by the district administration because just like the mythological character Sita in Ramayana, she was rescued from the soil.

Jajpur sub collector Narayan Chandra Dhala said, “The district administration has decided to bear all kind of responsibilities of the girl infant” adding her name giving ceremony will be held at the Biraja temple on April 14.

Meanwhile, the district police have launched a probe into the newborn buried alive case after registering a criminal case. Earlier in the day, the District Child Protection Officer filed a complaint at the Jenapur police station regarding the matter.
