Bhadrak: Tension erupted at the Chandbali Community Health Centre (CHC) of Bhadrak district today after a newborn died allegedly due to lack of oxygen. The family members of the deceased staged a dharna on the premises of the health centre demanding compensation.

As per the complaint, one Bimala Dash of Bhuinbruti Nuagaon  was admitted to the CHC after she experienced labour pain yesterday and delivered a baby boy there. The newborn was referred to the Bhadrak District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) as his health condition deteriorated. However, he died on the way to the hospital. Doctors at the Bhadrak DHH alleged that the infant died due to lack of oxygen.

On the other hand, doctors at the Chandbali CHC said the condition of the newborn was not well after his birth. He was administered oxygen while being taken to the Bhadrak hospital.

An inquiry will be conducted into the allegations and action taken after that, said Chandbali CHC In-charge  Dr Ashwini Kar.
