Bhubaneswar: Much to the relief of the students, the Odisha government today unveiled new text books and syllabus for Plus Two courses.
Rolling out the new books and syllabus for Science, Arts, Commerce and Vocational Education courses for Plus Two at the office of the Odisha State Bureau of Text Book Preparation and Production here, Higher Education department secretary GVV Sharma said the department has decided to make these news books and syllabus available to the students within two weeks.
He said the state government has decided to introduce a new Plus Two syllabus based on the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) pattern from the current academic year.
“Keeping in view the poor performance of the students in all-India entrance examinations, the Higher Education department had decided to replace the existing course and syllabus of Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) with a new syllabus for Plus Two on CBSE pattern. As the CBSE sets questions for of all-India entrance tests, introduction of new Plus Two courses on CBSE pattern would help the students to improve their performance,” Sharma said.
He also said he has asked officials of the department to expedite the process to release these new books and syllabus within the next two weeks, tentatively a week after the commencement of classes from July 14.
Director of the Bureau Gitika Patnaik said emphasis has been given on objective pattern of study in the new syllabus
“To enable the students to grasp the subject properly, there is a question bank on the last page of the book for their practice. As per the new syllabus, 70 percent of questions will be of objective type and 30 percent of subjective type for the Plus Two students from this academic session. The books are written by a team of expert educationists from Odisha and neighbouring states and the language is very lucid for the students to understand the subject easily,” she said.
CHSE has decided that students of Plus Two first year will have to write answers to 50 objective questions in the OMR sheets in each subject in the annual examination in March next year.
