Bhubaneswar: The 1 Odisha Remount and Veterinary (R and V) Squadron, one of the most illustrious NCC horse squadrons in the country and the only one from state, marks its 50th year of inception on September 8.

Former and current cadets from the squadron will gather to commemorate the occasion of golden jubilee celebration.

Informing about the occasion, NCC Deputy DDG, Odisha Commodore Sailendra Singh said “If we celebrate such events, as per my opinion it would be a best reason to inspire people.”

The NCC directorate has made elaborate arrangements for special horse shows, Air/Naval show and cultural programmes on the occasion to showcase mottos of the Indian Army, NCC and display the achievements of the unit made over the years. Equestrian cadets and all the 11 horses of the unit will show their skills and mastery in horsemanship.

The NCC veterinary squadron has a long illustrious history. It is the only horse unit from the state commissioned way back in 1966 at the Odisha Veterinary College complex of the Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology.

As many as 32 cadets from this unit have been posted in the Indian army.

In national-level parades the unit has a very good track record and has a record of winning more than five gold and silver medals since its commissioning.

“We have a very good record during the republic day parade. Initially Odisha used to bag the most number of medals and we are still trying to maintain that tradition,” Squadron Commanding Officer, LK PK Singh, said.

“As a student I made my career from this unit only. After 50 years when I see that we are celebrating the golden jubilee, I cannot express my happiness,” said squadron president retd. Lt. Gen Narayan Mohanty.
