Cuttack: They are two human beings but share one heart and liver. It is the tale of Nayagarh conjoined twins- Ganga and Jamuna who are now battling for survival at Sishu Bhawan in Cuttack.

The CT scan and other tests confirmed that the twins share one heart and liver, informed Sishu Bhawan superintendent, Saroj Satpathy.

The twin girls were born to Kishore and Sumitra Dutta of Sarankul in Nayagarh district on December 1 at a private nursing home. They were shifted to Sishu Bhawan the next day.

“After the CT Scan and other consultations with radiology professor, it is evident that the twins share one heart and liver. We also suspect that the heart of babies also have some congenital problems for which we have recommended further tests,” Satpathy added.

Sishu Bhawan authorities informed that the condition of the twins is not stable and they have been kept under strict medical supervision in the ICU.

Earlier, Odisha government had announced all possible assistance to the family for the treatment of the twins. Health Minister Pratap Jena had also stated that the newborns would be sent outside Odisha if they require more advanced treatment.
