Bhubaneswar: Targeting the BJP-led Central government over discontinuation of KBK funds, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today asserted people of the State with legal expertise under the banner of BJD Legal Front will fight in favour of Odisha’s interest on the issue.

Patnaik, who was the chief guest at the BJD Legal Front executive meeting at BJD State headquarters here, stated, “The party’s legal front will continue to work for strengthening the justice delivery system. Let us join hands together to fight for Odia Swabhiman.”

He further stated, “Odisha has been repeatedly denied of its rights on the rivers flowing through it.  Both in case of Polavaram and Mahanadi issues, the State has been a victim of Central neglect and conspiracy. But we are determined to fight this issue at every level till we achieve the desired results.”

He added, "The legal front will further the process of providing social, economic and political justice to the people."

Patnaik said, "Under the BJD rule, Odisha is one among the few states of the country which has taken a number of initiatives to strengthen the Panchayati Raj System. We have successfully empowered the people at the Panchayat level to carry out the planning and implementation process of the basic infrastructure facilities in the rural area."

"The primary objective of our party is to ensure a sustainable development mechanism with the support and participation of people. I hope the Legal Front will contribute to this process in achieving our goal," he added.

Patnaik said the state government has put in place a robust social welfare mechanism that covers every section of society.

He said Odisha is the only state to double the income of farmers in the last decade and transform it from a rice deficit state to a rice surplus state.
