Bhubaneswar/New Delhi: While speculations were rife about a secret political alliance after a meeting between Chief Minister & BJD president Naveen Patnaik and Leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra, the latter today clarified that the meeting was to seek cooperation from the Opposition party for the smooth conduct of the upcoming Hockey World Cup which will be hosted by Odisha.

"I met him officially as he invited me to seek cooperation from the Opposition party for smooth conduct of an international sporting event to be held in Bhubaneswar. My meeting with Naveen Babu and his meeting with PM Modi should not be construed as political. So, such speculations should end here," Mishra said.

The senior Congress leader met the CM at his residence at Abdul Kalam Marg in New Delhi, triggering speculations.

BJD said the meeting should not be analysed from a political point of view. "Leaders of various parties were invited for a discussion on the mega sports event to be organised in the State. Leader of Opposition is one of them," BJD MP and spokesperson Pratap Deb said.

Odisha will host the men's Hockey World Cup-2018 to be held at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar from November 28 to December 16. The CM made the official announcement today while unveiling the jersey for the mega event.
