Bhubaneswar: The lone giraffe 'Khusi' at Nandankanan here has a reason to cheer as the zoo authorities have decided to bring  two partners for her from Mysore under animal  exchange programme.

Nandankanan will have to give two tigers to Mysore zoo to get the long-necked animals. The State zoo director recently returned from Mysore after discussing with the authorities there in this regard.

The process will be expedited only after the approval of Central zoo authority, sources said.

In 2008, a giraffe had died when overhead electric wires hit his neck while being transported from Alipore zoo to the Nandankanan sanctuary. Later, another one was brought from the same zoo in March last year in exchange of two tigers. However, the animal died only after five days of arrival.
