Bhubaneswar: A female sloth bear named ‘Mili’ died at Nandankanan zoo after prolonged illness today. It was undergoing treatment at an isolated feeding chamber of the zoo since long.

The 16-year-old animal was born to Savitri in 2001 and was under medical supervision since long due to progressive emaciation caused by suspected tuberculosis (TB), zoo authorities said.
The animal was administered parental antibiotic, oral multivitamins and liver tonic, zoo sources said. Experts from College of Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry will conduct post-mortem to find more information about the death.

At present, Nandankan has 16 sloth bears including 11 males.
