Niali: After a brief lull, the fear of mystery animal and sheep death has again returned to Niali with five more sheep found dead late last night.

According to reports, the unidentified animal has allegedly killed three sheep at Pokhari village under Bilasuni panchayat and two in Tarbana.

The incident has now instilled a sense of panic as the sheep killing cases had stopped for nearly three months and it has again resurfaced with the 14 sheep deaths reported from different places of Niali area in the last one week.

The mysterious animal had earlier killed over 250 sheep in Niali region alone from February to July this year.

Besides, similar incidents of sheep deaths were also reported from Bhanjanagar, Jagatsinghpur, Kalahandi, Nuapada and Kendrapara districts during that period.

The ‘killer’ had remained elusive despite massive operation launched by the forest department at Niali and other places.
