Bhubaneswar: Subroto Bagchi, the co-founder of leading IT services company Mindtree and newly appointed chief of Odisha Skill Development Authority, today said his immediate aim is to make the youths of the state skilled and independent like their counterparts in developed countries of the world.

The Bengaluru-based Odia IT entrepreneur was talking to media persons after arriving in Bhubaneswar this afternoon.

“I will try to work with everybody’s cooperation. My first priority is making the youths of Odisha skilled and independent,” said Bagchi, who would assume office on May 1, which happens to be the World Labour Day.
Bagchi, who visited Jagannath temple in Puri today, said, “I will visit all the 30 districts in the next 15 days to study the ground reality and then chalk out a plan on how to make the youths skilled and employable”.

He also said efforts will be made to make boys and girls of the state to be competitive and world class when it comes to employment opportunities.

It may noted that Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had yesterday announced Bagchi as the chief of Odisha Skill Development Authority (OSDA) to guide, implement, coordinate and oversee all skill development programmes in the state and to ensure quality skill training is established and sustained employability of trained youths.
As per a government release, Bagchi will be given the rank of a Cabinet minister and the state government would provide all necessary support in this regard.
The Mindtree co-founder was born in Patnagarh in Bolangir district and studied in Utkal University. He began his career in the Industries department of Odisha government and went on to become a globally renowned IT entrepreneur.
