Cuttack: Mass namaz prayers will be held at mosques across the State today on occasion of the Eid-ul-Fitr marking end of the holy month of Ramadan.

Muslims wearing new clothes offer prayers in a gesture of thanksgiving at the end of holy Ramadan month at Eidgahs and mosques across the State and relish sweet dishes.

During Ramadan, the Islamic calendar’s ninth month, Muslims fast every day, stay away from food and water from dawn to dusk, and offer prayers. Ramadan ends with Eid-ul-Fitr and lasts 29 or 30 days depending on the calendar.

It is believed first verses of the Quran were revealed to Prophet Muhammad during the month.
