Puri: Music band party owners and DJ organisers will face stringent action for playing loud music during processions, especially near the Srimandir here. To curb noise pollution and avoid the damage caused to the 12th-century shrine due to loud music, the Puri district administration has imposed certain restrictions on musical bands and DJs.

As per the regulation, no musical band or DJs will be allowed to perform in the area surrounding the Jagannath temple. The administration has served a notice to all band party owners asking them to stop playing music while crossing any road in the temple vicinity.

Since playing of loud music by band parties and DJs near the temple is affecting the shrine, the district Collector has imposed such restrictions, said an official.

Besides the Badadanda, band and DJ party organizers have been asked to restrict their sound levels to the permissible 60-decibel limit and action will be initiated against defaulters as per the law.

“DJs and band party owners have been asked to stop the music system while carrying out procession in the temple area. Besides, they have been instructed not to cross the 60-decibel sound limit and stop performing after 10 pm,” said Collector Arvind Agarwal.
