Murder convict attempts suicide in Berhampur Jail

Berhampur: A murder convict serving life term allegedly attempted suicide inside the Circle jail here on Thursday, police said.

The convict, a resident of Koraput, tried to hang himself from a window grill in the prison ward, the police said.

He was immediately admitted to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital here, said Senior Jail Superintendent BB Patnaik.

The condition of the convict, who was earlier in Koraput jail, is stated to be out of danger, he said.

The convict has already spent around 10 years in jail, he said, adding that the reason of suicide attempt has not been ascertained yet.
