Bhubaneswar: Rail passengers had a tough time at the railway station here as activists of the Congress youth wing staged a rail roko today  protesting killing of five farmers in Madhya Pradesh. The youth activists halted the Falaknuma Express and Bhubaneswar-Bhadrak-Berhampur passenger train at the railway station.

Holding party flags and shouting slogans, the activists led by senior party leader Suresh Routray took out a rally from the Congress Bhavan to the railway staion and staged demonstration there. They also protested arrest of Congress national vice-president Rahul Gandhi during the farmers’ protest in Madhya Pradesh.

“The youth Congress has staged rail roko at different places across the state to protest the killing of innocent farmers in Madhya Pradesh. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had promised many things for the development of farmers but has failed to do so. Congress has always fought for the interests of farmers and would continue to do so,” said a youth activist.

“We want justice for the farmers and the government should make sure that the farmers get proper price for their produce,” he added.

Police personnel were deployed at the spot to avoid any untoward situation during the protest.
