Nabarangpur: Lok Sabha MP Balabhadra Majhi today wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi apprising him about four different irrigation projects in Rayagada, Koraput and Nabarangpur districts, whose Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) are yet to be submitted since 2008 leading to delay in the much awaited projects.

In the letter, Majhi stated that despite the fact that the state government had awarded the contracts of the Tel Integrated Multipurpose Project in Nabarangpur, Middle Kolab project in Koraput district and Lower and Upper Vansadhara project in Rayagada district to one M/S WAPCOS, a Central Government PSU during March 2008, for surveying, investigation and submission of DPRs, the agency is yet to submit the same.

While the DPR of Tel and Middle Kolab project was submitted for the first time in 2015 they were subsequently rejected for not being in order as per the latest guidelines of Central Water Commission (CWC). Upon order for resubmission of the DPR, the surveying agency resubmitted the DPR of Tel project in April 2017 and then DPR of Middle Kolab in May 2017. But still they were not found to be in order.

On the other hand the DPRs of lower and Upper Vansadhara are yet to be submitted even for the first time, Majhi stated in the letter.

The Lok Sabha MP has urged the PMO to expedite measures for environmental clearance to the much awaited projects in the next six months so that they will provide relief to the drought prone tribal blocks of backward KBK regions.
