Berhampur: More than Rs 10 lakh fraud was reported at the State Bank of India (SBI), Karchuli branch in Ganjam district with agriculture loan issued in the name of ghost loanees.

While loans were issued by the bank to beneficiaries, details of the loanees could not be found during field visit of bank officials.

For instance, the bank record shows Rs 73,000 agriculture loan was issued in 2014 in the name of one Barik Naik of Udayapur, who died 18 years ago.

The SBI, Karchuli branch has issued loans in similar way to as many as 16 beneficiaries.

Some loanees were untraceable during field visits whereas some others found to have died long back.

Satya Naik, a resident of Udayapur, said, "I do not know who has taken agriculture loan in the name of my father who died when I was a child."

Echoing similar views, Simanchal Pradhan, Sarpanch, B. Karadabadi, said, "List of loanees available at the panchayat office does not match with that of the bank."

Meanwhile, a case has been registered at the Buguda police station under Sec 468, 471, 409 and 420 of the IPC.

Utkal Keshari Das, SDPO, Bhanjanagar alleged , "Prima facie evidence shows the then SBI manager is involved in the loan fraud," adding that probe is on to get the details.
