Bhubaneswar: After a delay of two days, southwest monsoon finally arrived in Odisha with rainfall lashing several coastal districts here on Monday.

Announcing the monsoon arrival, the Regional Meteorological Department informed that four districts of the State –Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak and Balasore witnessed the first showers this season today.

“The depression formed over the Bay of Bengal yesterday has intensified into a deep depression, which is likely to trigger heavy rain coupled with gusty surface winds in several areas of Odisha in the 24 hours,” said Sarat Sahoo, director regional meteorological department.

Sahoo further informed that the the system crossed Bangladesh coast while the southwest monsoon is likely to advance to several parts of Odisha in the next couple of days.
