Bhubaneswar: My entry into politics is inspired by the ideology of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, said Ollywood actress Mahasweta Ray while joining the BJP at the party headquarters in Bhubaneswar today.

Speaking to media persons, Mahasweta said, "BJP is gradually following the steps of our Prime Minister and the transformation is being seen in Odisha. I have thought a lot before entering politics and will definitely work with the same sincerity and seriousness that I had shown in my 42-year-long career in the film industry."

The actress also targeted Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik during the event saying she is not sure about the ideology of the latter as he has displayed nothing of that sort during his 17-year rule in Odisha. Women have never gained respect during Patnaik's rule, she added.

Mahasweta is one of the most acclaimed actors in the State and has worked in over 80 films in Odia and other languages. She is still active in the Odia film industry.

She joined the BJP today in presence of various senior leaders, including Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

"Mahasweta cannot be compared with any character as she is an idol. Our party is grateful to her as she joined our party. We had discussed few days back that we all have some duty for the development of Odisha and I welcome her to the party to perform her duty," said Pradhan.
