Sundargarh: The State Government on Saturday signed a memorandum with the NTPC Ltd to set up a modern polytechnic college at Darlipali in Sundargarh district.

The MoU was signed between the Department of Skill Development and Technical Education, Odisha and the NTPC in the presence Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at the Secretariat here. Technical Education director Balwant Singh and NTPC Regional Executive Director Arvind Kumar signed the MoU on behalf of the the Department of Skill Development and Technical Education and the NTPC Ltd, respectively.

Under the MoU, the NTPC would spend Rs 25 crore for construction of classrooms, workshops and libraries. Besides, the PSU would also supply necessary equipment to the institution. The college would offer diploma course on electrical engineering, mining engineering and instrumentation and controls engineering. Each branch would cater to 60 students.

On the occasion, the Chief Minister said the State Government accords the highest priority to skill development. It has taken up an ambitious target of skilling eight lakhs youths of the State in the next three years and to position the skill of Odisha as the global brand.

“I am happy to announce that the Skill Development and Technical Education Department, Odisha has entered into a partnership with the NTPC Ltd for setting up of a state-of-the-art polytechnic college at Darlipali in Sundargarh district. Earlier, the NTPC had taken up the establishment of modern ITI at Shergarh in Ganjam and it would start function from the next academic session. Consistent efforts are made by the Government to create an ecosystem for collaboration with industries to set up more such technical institutions to hone the skills of the youths in Odisha," Patnaik said.

In order to meet the shoo floor supervisory level workforce, efforts have been made in recent years to set up at least one government polytechnic in each district, he added.

Technical Education Minister Sanjay Dasburma, SD & TE Department secretary Sanjay Singh and Odisha Skill Development Authority (OSDA) chairman Subroto Bagchi also spoke on the occasion. Chief Secretary AP Padhi was also present.
