Mockery of policing; OTV scribe looted at gun point in rush hour

Bhubaneswar: In an another instance of deterioration in law and order situation in Bhubaneswar, a youth scribe of a reputed regional news channel was robbed of his valuables including bike and mobile phone by two armed robbers at gun-point near the Honda showroom at Hanspal at around 6.30 pm today here.

Talking to the media, the loot victim and scribe of the news channel Odisha TV, Bikram Keshari Jena said the two looters riding a red CBZ bike intercepted him near the Honda showroom while returning home from Pahal on his YAMAHA R15 bike. When Jena stopped his bike, one of the two looters came close to him and asked to handover the valuables and leave his bike at gunpoint.

Seeing some resistance from the OTV scribe, another looter driving the red bike directed his associate to kill him with his gun following which Jena handed over his bike, gold chain, ring, wallet and mobile.

After looting all the valuables from the OTV scribe, the two looters fled the spot.

Somehow Jena managed to reach the Balianta police station to lodge a complaint.

The recent loot incidents including the robbery from the OTV scribe raise serious doubts about the effectiveness of the Twin City Police Commissionerate, which was established by the Odisha government in 2007 primarily to maintain better law and order situation in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.

Notably, the Commissionerate Police is yet to nab the mastermind of the UCO Bank dacoity which occurred in broad daylight in Bapuji Nagar located at one of the prime areas of Bhubaneswar on September 28. Though the cops have managed to get some lead in the case in which Rs 13 lakh and one kg gold was looted from the UCO Bank locker and arrested two persons from outside the State, the main accused is still at large.
