Puri: The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) seized seven mobile phones from visitors on the temple premises here this morning.

Police have detained seven persons in this connection.

Sources said devotees from West Bengal, Jharkhand and Haryana visited the 12th century shrine this morning. Some servitors caught the visitors with mobile phones and later handed them over to SJTA.

When asked, the visitors claimed that during checking the security personnel did not ask them to keep the phones outside the temple.

"We did not know about the prohibition of mobile phones inside the temple. The security personnel allowed us after the checking at the entry point. But we have not clicked a single picture inside the temple. Rather, the servitors misbehaved with me and my daughter while taking away the mobile phones," said a female visitor from Jharkhand.

Temple Administrator (Rituals) said, "Experts will examine the mobile phones. Action will be taken If the visitors are found to have clicked any picture and posted the same on social media. Else, the cell phones will be returned."
