Nabarangpur: In yet another instance of mob justice, a woman was mercilessly beaten up and humiliated in public view by a mob at Buhaliguda village in Nabarangpur district.  The woman, who happens to be an angwanwadi worker, was thrashed and paraded by villagers for allegedly maintaining an illicit relationship with a man from another village.

The anganwadi worker faced the wrath of the villagers soon after the man arrived at her residence in a Bolero vehicle on Thursday night.

Alleging that both the woman anganwadi worker and the man were in an illicit relationship, the mob dragged them out the house, thrashed them after tying them together with a rope.

The mob also tonsured the head of the man while others were constantly passing lewd remarks against the woman for indulging in such act, a video footage recorded on the mobile of an onlooker revealed.

"It is now for the past few days that several people are visiting my house. But it doesn't mean I have relationship with all," said the victim woman.

The woman further alleged that the villagers misbehaved and beat her mercilessly.

"We urge the administration to sack the anganwadi worker and take action against the concerned person," said a villager.

In the meantime, after getting information, police reached the spot and rescued the man and the woman. Later police arrested three persons including the husband of the victim woman in connection with the incident.

Social activist Rutuparna Mohanty said that "Crime against women is on rise and there is a need of stringent action against those taking law into their hands."

Shockingly a group of people recorded the entire act in their mobile phones when both the woman and her alleged lover were being humiliated in the village.

"We had got information at around 9 AM today that a woman and a man have been detained by villagers. We immediately sent a team and rescued both of them," said Umerkote IIC, Birendra Senapati.
