Rourkela: Tension prevailed in Rourkela today after locals including women in the area detained a police vehicle and vandalised it near Ring Road during a road blockade staged to protest death of two persons in a road mishap here on Saturday. Three police personnel have been injured in the attack.
As per sources, four students met with an accident near Ring Road here on Saturday, following which one got killed on the spot.
The other three were immediately admitted to Rourkela Ispat General Hospital in a critical condition, where one more succumbed to the injuries today.
Demanding compensation for the family of the deceased, locals staged a road blockade and gradually the mob became violent.
However, local police who rushed to the spot to control the situation had to face the brunt of the locals after they started pelting stones at the police vehicle and vandalised it completely.
Meanwhile, sources said that three police personnel have been injured in the attack and are undergoing treatment.
