Bhubaneswar: After floating an eponymous outfit Sana Sena, Independent legislator of Champua Assembly constituency Sanatan Mahakud will soon have his own political party.

Titled 'Jana Samrudha Party', Mahakud recently applied for the registration of the party with Election Commission of India under Section 29A of the Representation of the People's Act, 1951. The party will function from its headquarters at Kasipur-Balarampur of Keonjhar Gada.

The application form mentions Mahakud as the president, Saroj Sahoo as executive president along with eight other party functionaries.

According to sources, the new political outfit of the Independent MLA will not be confined to Keonjhar only, but will field candidates in all 147 constituencies of Odisha. It will start its activities from Srikshetra (Puri) with a rally till Ghatagaan Tarini shrine once the registration process is over.

Mahakud's supporters feel the move will create a new chapter in Odisha politics. "When party candidates will emerge victorious in the election, it will herald a new chapter in Odisha politics," a supporter said.

"It may not impact BJD. But, he may use money that he extracted from the mines of mineral rich Keonjhar. With power of money, he has already captured all blocks of the district," local BJD leader Jitu Patnaik, who was defeated by Mahakud in Champua Assembly segment said.
