Bhubaneswar: While the Commissionerate Police along with J&K Police has been trying to connect the dots to solve the mystery behind the missing AIIMS Bhubaneswar student from Kashmir Suhail Aijaz, his father Aijaz Ahmed Kataria, through media, today urged him not to join any militant outfit or get into illegal activities.

“Parents never lose hope. We just hope he returns safely. I appeal whichever place he is in, where ever he is, he just returns. I don’t want anything else," cried Suhail’s father.

He further said, “If at all he has decided to quit MBBS, I expect he does not take any step which may bring problems for him as well as for the family. I pray for his life.”

Not only his father, the sudden disappearance of Suhail has raised many eyebrows as the family resides in Kupwara district of Kashmir, where terrorist activities are at its peak.

This apart, the number of highly qualified youths from the area joining militancy recently is quite alarming for everyone.

Suhail has been pursing MBBS at the AIIMS here since 2016 and left his hostel on February 9. However he has been missing since then, sources said.

Reportedly, Suhail had informed the authorities of the institute that he was going to Chandigarh with his friends to attend a wedding and would be back on February 17, but he did not return.

A note was also recovered from his hostel room in which he had written “I Quit”.

As per the AIIMS authorities, Suhail has been very respectful to his teachers and got a good set of friends. Appreciating Suhail, AIIMS director Gitanjali Batmanabane said he was very participatory in all the extra-curricular activities in the institute.

The director said, “Suhail has come through an All India written examination. So obviously he is extremely intelligent and brilliant student. From whatever we know about him, he's been very respectful to his teachers. He has got a good set of friends. He is very participatory even the extra-curricular activities that go on in AIIMS Bhubaneswar.”

However, Geetanjali was not ready to accept the fact that Suhail decided to quit just because of his poor marks in the examination. “I don't know why he quit. But what he has written in that note states that he is not happy doing Medicine,” she said.

“We lodged a missing person's report with the police as soon as we found that he was missing and left it to the police. As of now, we are hoping we will be able to locate where he is and that he will come back,” the director added.

On the other hand, the Jammu & Kashmir police and Commissionerate Police have expedited the probe and shared information with the Intelligence Bureau as well as the National Investigation Agency (NIA). "We are sharing necessary information and our effort to trace the boy is on. All possible places where we can get evidence will be looked into,” stated Police Commissioner YB Khurania.

Sources further said the Commissionerate Police is in contact with the Howrah police and the CID West Bengal as Suhail’s last known location was somewhere in Howrah.
