Balasore: A Puri-bound fast passenger train from Kharagpur had a close shave after a crack on the railway track was detected on time near Keshapur village under Bahanaga block of Balasore district today morning.

According to sources, around 7 AM, the train was halted after the crack was spotted. It also affected the trains running on Howrah -Bhubaneswar route. Later, railway officials repaired the track following which train services resumed.

Later in the day, a gangman was suspended by the assistant engineer in Balasore in connection with the matter.

A few days back, another tragedy was averted after five bogies got detached from a goods train near Bahanaga station.

The bogies of the goods train proceeding towards Tata from Dhamra in Bhadrak got separated near Panpana station. The matter came to light only after the goods train had covered over 2 kms.

In a similar incident involving a passenger train, 22 coaches of Puri-Ahmedabad express had rolled down for over 10 kms without engine on April 8 near Titlagarh station.

The coaches got detached from the engine during an engine change at Titlagarh railway station and continued to roll on without engine for 15 kms up to Kesinga. Seven railway officials were later suspended for dereliction in duty.
