Cuttack: A four-member gang of robbers’ allegedly looted about 2.5 kg gold from an employee of a jewellery workshop at Chemical Road near Alisha Bazar in Cuttack on Saturday.

The incident occurred when the employee of the jewellery store Saurabh Mujherjee was transporting the gold ornaments to another shop located at Choudhry bazaar for Hallmark stamping.

The miscreants intercepted Mujherjee travelling on a two-wheeler, threw chilli powder in his eyes and later decamped with the gold ornaments.

The cost of the looted gold ornaments is said to be around Rs 70 lakh.

Lalbagh police has started an investigation into the incident basing on the complaint filed by the owner of the jewellery workshop.

A senior police official said that the process of identifying the miscreants has started while the CCTV footage of various shops near the spot of occurrence of the crime is also being reviewed.
