Bhubaneswar: Seven dacoits looted cash worth Rs 15 lakh and ornaments from the Andhra Bank in Kaushalyagang area on the outskirts of the city here in broad daylight today.

According to reports, the seven dacoits came on three bikes and barged into the bank in the afternoon and overpowered the bank staff after attacking the security guard Babaji Sethi with a bhujali.

They asked the branch manager Nancy Pradhan to hand over the key of the bank locker at knife point and looted the cash and ornaments.

Following information, a team from Pipili police station rushed to the bank for an on-the-spot investigation.

Talking to media persons, the security guard said one of the miscreants suddenly kicked him from behind. “After I fell down, three miscreants overpowered me. But as tried to break free and fire at them from my gun, one of them attacked my hand with a bhujali”, he said.

“Preliminary investigation has revealed that some miscreants not belonging to the locality have committed the dacoity after observing the activities of the bank for some days. We have got the photos of these miscreants from the CCTV inside the bank. We hope that the miscreants would be arrested very soon,” said Sushil Mishra, IIC of Pipili Police Station.
