Balasore: Miscreants allegedly looted Rs 5 lakh cash and gold ornaments from a medicine store owner after attacking him near Routamandaruni-Khalagadia road under Kamarda police station limits in Balasore district on Tuesday night.

The incident occurred when Das was returning home after closing his shop at around 11 pm yesterday. Some miscreants intercepted him and attacked him with a dagger before snatching cash and gold chain, ring that he was wearing and later decamped with his motorcycle.

Critically injured Pradipta Ranjan Das was first admitted to a local health centre and later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack after his condition deteriorated.

Police have started investigation even though no complaint has been filed in connection with the incident.

"After getting information about the incident, a team was sent to the spot and we have already started an investigation even though no formal complaint registered yet," said Inspector-In-Charge of Kamarda police station, Bijay Kumar Murmu.
