Cuttack: In a shocking incident, four miscreants allegedly gangraped a woman after looting valuables from her house at Jhinkiria village under Sadar police limits in the district last night.

The victim lodged a complaint with police in the morning acting on which a team rushed to spot and started investigation. "We have started investigation from all angles. Forensic team has also been engaged in the probe," DCP Sanjeev Arora said.

Police said the victim, a resident of Begunia in Khurda district, was staying in a rented house in the Jhinkiria village with her husband and two children.

Her husband had gone to Cuttack to attend to his relative admitted to SCB medical on the fateful night. Taking advantage of his absence, the criminals committed the crime, her husband said.

“I was not in the house last night as I had gone to the SCB Medical College and Hospital to attend to a relative. Four miscreants broke into my house at about 1.30 AM and threatened my wife and two children with sharp weapons. They snatched her mangalsutra, a silver ornament, Rs 15,000 in cash and three mobile phones. Later, they took her to a secluded place about 2 km from my house and brutally gang raped her,” husband of the victim told media persons, demanding stringent punishment for the miscreants.

He further said there is no law and order in the area where he resides as a result of which a number of criminal and anti-social activities are taking place.

Narrating her ordeal before media, the victim said that miscreants first terrorised her and kids at knife point threatening to kill all of them. Later, they snatched the valuables, she said.

“After looting the valuables, they dragged me out of the house to abuse me physically and beat me up severely when I tried to escape. They would have murdered me after raping me. But, I managed to hide myself in a bush," she said between sobs, requesting newsmen to take up the issue seriously.
