Minor rapes on rise in Odisha: 2 cases reported from Angul & Jharsuguda

Angul: In yet another incident that can put humanity to shame, a minor  girl was allegedly raped on Friday near her school in Jarada area here in the district. The accused has also been arrested after her family members lodged a complaint in the police station.

As per reports,  the girl studying in Gajamohan Nodal School went out of the school premises to attend nature's call when she was allegedly raped by an unidentified person.

A case was registered at Jarada police station by the family members of the girl and the accused has been arrested, informed Jarada IIC, Bindubasini Biswal.

"The girl has been sent for medical examination and further treatment today. All steps will be taken to give justice to the girl and the accused will be dealt with sternly as per the law," she added.

Some locals, in protest had also staged a dharna in front of the school. Later, the IIC reached the spot and pacified them.

In another  incident, a 4-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by her neighbour in Talenapali village under Banaharapali police limits in Jharsuguda district on Saturday.

According to reports, her family members filed a complaint in the police station. The minor who was living with her grandmother was reportedly sexually assaulted by a youth who lived near their house.

After primary treatment in Ib Thermal Hospital, the minor was shifted to District Headquarters Hospital in Jharsugada.

Meanwhile, police have launched a manhunt to nab the accused.
