Deogarh: Tension prevailed after two persons were killed, including a minor girl, and two others injured in a wall collapse at Rengalbeda Seva Ashram in Riamal block of Deogarh district today.

While one deceased has been identified as Kajal Mahar (10), daughter of a female worker employed in the Seva Ashram, the identity of other is yet to be ascertained. Kajal’s sister was also injured in the mishap.

According to sources, the building was very old and the wall was weak. Even if a new concrete building had been constructed for the Seva Ashram, the asbestos house had not been demolished. The children were playing near it when the wall collapsed giving way to the asbestos-sheet roof that fell on them killing one on the spot and injuring three others.

The injured were first rushed to Deogarh district headquarters hospital and two of them were later shifted to VIMSAR, Burla as their condition deteriorated.

Later another person succumbed to the injuries at Burla hospital.

Locals staged a road blockade on National Highway-53 at Rengalbeda demanding compensation for family of the victims, added sources.
