Cuttack: A day after the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) lodged a complaint over torture of a four-year-old girl, Police today arrested the accused from CDA area in the city today.
“Following the complaint of Child Line, we registered a case under Section 323 of IPC and 75 of Juvenile Justice Act at CDA sector Phase II police station. The accused, the child’s aunt Priya Mishra alia Pranati Roul has been arrested and will be forwarded to court. The child’s parents who are staying in Delhi will also be called for interrogation,” ACP Pramod Rath said.
According to reports, Pranati Roul of Sector 11 reportedly beat the girl with a broom as she refused to wash clothes. The video of the entire scene was shot by an unidentified man.
Later, the CWC filed an FIR and rescued the child after the video footage went viral on social media.

Bruises were found on the girl’s body. She said that her aunt beat her up regularly. She even said she does not want to go to her parents as they also beat her.
The accused had said yesterday, “I beat her because she was doing mischief and her parents know about it. She is staying with me since nine months and I have asked them to take her. They have assured to come in one or two months. She does not want to go as her parents beat her more.”
