Cuttack: A six-year-old minor girl is now battling for life after she was rescued in an unconscious state from the veranda of a school at Salepur in the district here on Saturday evening.

The family members alleged that the girl was raped and an attempt was also made to kill her as blood was oozing out from her mouth.

The girl was then rushed to Salepur Community Health Centre (CHC) and later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital after her condition deteriorated.

Sources said the girl went missing soon after she left home to buy chocolates from nearby market at around 6 pm yesterday. The family then launched a search operation after the girl did not return home..

Later, the minor girl was rescued from the school verandah after three bike-borne youths informed the family about her at around 7:30 pm yesterday.

Though it is still unclear whether the girl was raped or not, police have begun investigation basing on the complaint filed by the girl's family.

"From preliminary investigation it appears that the girl was subjected to physical assault.Only after medical examination, we can ascertain whether she was raped or not," said Salepur SDPO PK Jena.

Meanwhile, a medical team comprising doctors of six departments has been constituted for the treatment of the girl who is now undergoing treatment in ICU, said a senior SCB official.
