Berhampur: The post mortem report of Mini Dalabehera, a woman sarpanch candidate for Baghamari panchayat whose half-burnt body was found inside Sagada hill forest under Mohana block in Gajapati district yesterday, has revealed that she was burnt after murder.

The post mortem of the deceased was conducted by a team of doctors of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology (FMT) Department of MKCH Medical College and Hospital here.

Talking to media persons later, Dr Hemant Panigrahi, Assistant Professor, FMT said the preliminary investigation has revealed that the deceased had multiple injuries on her body which indicates that she was murdered while the burn injuries in the body suggests that the victim was set on fire after the murder.

He, however, said there was no evidence of rape found during post mortem.

Paula Dalabehera, father of the deceased said his daughter had no enmity with anyone in the panchayat since last 7-8 years. “But she became an eyesore to the opposite party candidates after she filed her nomination as a candidate for Baghamari panchayat sarpanch. I am sure the opposite political party candidates have killed my daughter,” he maintained.

Talking to the media, RN Barik, SDPO, R Udayagiri said police have started interrogation of all the villagers. Apart from this, a scientific team and a dog squad have conducted on-the-spot investigation.

“We are yet to trace out the assailants. But we will nab them very soon,” he added.

Notably, the deceased of Baghamari village had filed her nominations as a sarpanch candidate for Baghamari Gram Panchayat on January 11.  She had gone to the Canara Bank at Chandragiri on January 13. Since then, she had gone missing. However, her half-burnt body was found inside Sagada hill forest near Jirang village in the morning hours yesterday.
