Baripada/Koraput: The countdown for much awaited commencement of academic session at the two newly established  medical colleges in the state has begun with just days remaining before students finally turn up to kick off their career here at Baripada based Raghunath Murmu Medical College and Laxman Nayak Medical College in Koraput.

Both the colleges have 200 seats for MBBS stream with 100 in each out of which 15 seats are reserved for candidates under all India quota. For the first academic session beginning 2017-18, students can take admission in courses of Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry.

On the other hand the admission processes are underway and the preparations for the new academic session are on in full swing.

Infrastructure and other allied facilities like hostel for students, residential quarters for officials, library, and communication facilities are all ready for the students at Raghunath Murmu Medical College.

Similarly in Laxman Nayak Medical College, all the facilities have been set up to welcome the first batch of the college.

“Presently the first phase of all India quota counselling is continuing and subsequently counselling of students from Odisha will be done and the entire processes is likely to be completed by August 31,” LNM College Dean Bijayani Mohapatra told OTV.

It is important to note here that even though the state government sincerely urged the Medical Council of India (MCI) to declare both the institutions as ‘medical college’ having all necessary infra and ancillary facilities, the council it did not review the matter.

Later the matter was put forward to the consideration of the Supreme Court, and only after which the court’s oversight committee intervened into the matter and directed both the colleges to start taking students from the current academic session.
