Mediation costs Woman her life, another admitted to hospital

Bonai/Kalyansinghpur: In two bizarre incidents, a woman was beaten to death for mediating in a fight between two others in Bonai area of Sundergarh district while another man was shot at for interfering in a similar incident in Kalyasinghpur area of Rayagada district today.

The woman died last night at Sanaraxi village near Bonai when she tried to intervene in a quarrel between a youth with another. According to police, the deceased, identified as Sumitra Rai (40), was trying to resolve the feud. However, irked over her interference, the youths beat her up severely, killing her on the spot.

Soon after, the accused fled. Police rushed to the place and seized the body for post-mortem after registering a case in this regard.

In another incident, a man sustained a bullet injury on his leg while trying to solve a wrangle between a youth and his father-in-law last night at Mutkuni vllage near Kalyansinghpur in Rayagada district. While the youth opened fire at his father-in-law following a heated argument, the mediator came on the way while trying to pacify them.

He was admitted to a local hospital. Meanwhile, police has arrested the accused and started investigation.
