Cuttack: The Commissionerate Police on Sunday arrested BJP’s Mayurbhanj district president Krushna Chandra Mohapatra for allegedly defrauding a realtor of more than Rs 1 crore.

Acting as per court’s directive, police nabbed Mohapatra from CDA area in Cuttack. Earlier, Mohapatra was suspended from the saffron party two days back.

The Infocity Police had registered a case after the builder from Bhubaneswar had moved court seeking Mohapatra’s arrest.

According to the complainant, Rs 6-crore deal was allegedly struck between him and Mohapatra over a piece land in Nandankanan area in 2011.

Though Mohapatra took Rs 1 crore as advance, he had been dilly-dallying for past six years to handover the plot which was actually registered in the name of a third party.

Failing to get back his money, the realtor then had knocked the doors of the court.

Earlier, a team of Commissionerate police had also raided Mohapatra’s residence at Baripada two days back, but failed to nab him.

Meanwhile, BJP State president Basant Panda said, “Mohapatra has sold off his own land and has done the transaction in transparent manner. His arrest is BJD’s conspiracy to defame BJP,” adding that the party fully supports the party's Mayurbhanj district president.
