Cuttack/Balasore: Questions are being raised over error-free evaluation of Matriculation examination answer sheets with lapses being reported from different parts of the State.

Discrepancies have been alleged in scoring keys released by the Board of Secondary Education (BSE), which conducts the matric examination.

Students are confused and have threatened to knock the doors of the court, if the State government does not take steps to revaluate the answer sheets.

Monalisa Patra of Balasore who secured A1 grade with 554 marks said that 1 mark has been deducted in her MIL paper for her answer which as per the book is correct. She expressed her surprise that even the scoring key's answer is not matching with the answer given in the book.

“For wrong answers in scoring keys marks have been deducted. This way, meritorious students will be deprived. The State government should take a decision to re-evaluate answer sheets. Otherwise we will knock the doors of the court,” stated Patra.

Similar complaints have been brought by Himanshu Sethi of Berhampur who alleged that one mark has been deducted from his English paper based on a wrong answer in the scoring key meant for his question set; while as per the scoring key of a different set with a same question, his answer is correct.

“After checking the scoring keys, I came to know the answer for the same question in other two sets is correct in the scoring keys except the question set which I received. I would have secured 93% with this one mark and got fifth rank in school.”

On the other hand, teacher Tanasi Panigrahi said, “The board should ensure that the answer keys are error-free.”
