Cuttack: The popular North Indian festival Karva Chauth was celebrated in the Millenium City in a grand manner by Cuttack Srijan Sakha of Akhil Bharatiya Marwari Mahila Sammelan that hosted a Karwa Chauth festival for Marwari women in the city on Sunday.

A special Karva Chauth function was held at Joharimal High School in the city where hundreds of women of the community participated in the celebrations and prayed for the safety and long life of their husband. Celebrations of Karva Chauth included the rituals of worship along with competitions among the women. Women were seen enjoying together by challenging each-other in Diya making, Rajasthani folk dance, rangoli and other competitions.

Speaking to odishatv.in, Anju Tekriwal, president of the organization said, “This is the first such celebration in Cuttack where we all sisters have gathered. We fast from the morning and take blessings from all our elders on this day and it is an auspicious day for all of us.”

Presence of popular Rajasthani singer Kamal Vashisth made the occasion more special as he enthralled the gathering with his melodious performance. Women danced to the tunes of his songs. Traditional Ghoomar dance and playing housie were special attractions of the evening.

“They always invite me for their functions. I am happy to perform here when they have organized the event for the first time. My wife is also here to celebrate Karva Chauth making the occasion more special for me,” said singer Kamal Vashisth.

Cuttack Srijan Sakha a group of 40 Marwari women organize many such functions not only for the community but also for unprivileged and poor children. They visit orphanages regularly and actively participate in social service.
